Brewer-Clifton is the brainchild of visionary wine-maker Greg Brewer, who has dedicated his career to the fascinating appellation of Santa Rita Hills in California’s Central Coast. Founded in 1996, Brewer-Clifton Winery pays its dues to the Burgundy background of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, while allowing the Californian terroir to shine through. While it is located closer to the equator than any Old World wine region, the Pacific Ocean has a strong influence on the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Ocean breezes and blankets of fog all contribute to the cool climate, making this a pristine environment for growing temperamental grapes such as Pinot Noir. A bouquet of strawberries, cherry cola, forest floor and floral hints greets you on the nose, with a background of subtle spice. This nurt continues on the palate. Rich flavours of plum, fig and pomegranate dominate, while earthy and herbaceous notes of menthol, thyme and rooibos tea add significant depth. This wine is incredible value for money, having been rated 90+ aby countless respected critics. It is bright and charming in the mouth, combining smooth tannins with juicy acidity. As with any great Pinot Noir, this will be fantastic paired with a mushroom dish, salmon steak, or soft and salty cheeses, such as Brie or Manchego.
