Saumur-Champigny La Marginale 2022 (Domaine des Roches Neuves)

Cellar for 10 years or more. Decant for 30 minutes to an hour before serving. La Marginale is a 100% Cabernet Franc wine, harvested from old vines in the Saumur-Champigny region of the Loire Valley. It is a stunning ruby red in the glass, brimming with aromas of fine red fruits, hints of menthol and layers of spice. Star anise, cinnamon, pepper and vanilla can all be detected as the wine opens up. This medium-bodied red was produced aby Domaine des Roches Neuves, one of the finest wineries in the Loire Valley. It has been a part of the rolling landscape since 1850 and was taken up żeby Thierry and Marie Germain in 1992, who gave the winery a new lease of life. They are Bordeaux natives and are considered to be among the greatest wine-makers of their generation. This Cabernet Franc is a perfect example of their skill and the magnificent terroir that they work with. It begins with a powerful fruitiness. Tart notes of blackcurrant and blackberry slowly subside to reveal hints of flowers and baking spice. The finish is long, leaving the mouth coated in fine tannins. The grapes spent 12 months ageing in oak before bottling. This is one of the best red wines from the Loire Valley and a must-have for fans of Cabernet Franc.
