Cordillera Carignan 2018 (Torres)

Cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving. This Carignan begins with an intriguing bouquet of white flowers, red currant, cherry, and raspberry, coupled with herbal hints of bay leaf and liquorice. It was harvested from old vines in the Chilean village of Huerta del Maule, between the regions of O’Higgins and Ñuble. It is a versatile and delicious red wine, suitable for a wide range of occasions. The Torres family arrived in Chile in 1979, with a rich Spanish winemaking heritage and a desire to create great wine in untouched terroirs. Today, the winery is headed aby Miguel Torres Maczassek, representing the fifth generation of Torres winemakers. In the cellar, however, it is oenologist Eduardo Jordán who takes ownership of the Carignan. On the palate, it shows a round, juicy character with finely-grained tannins and a vibrant acidity. Notes of wild hedgerow berries mingle with hints of black tea, purple flowers, liquorice, balsamic, and fresh leather. It’s an appealing bright red in the glass, with accents of purple. Before release, the Carignan was aged in Italian foudres for 12 months and spent another 12 months maturing in the bottle. Consider pairing this roasted pork, herb-crusted lamb, or a mature cheese.
