Vagabond grenache 2021 (Thistledown)

Founded by Masters of Wine Fergal Tynan and Giles Cooke in 2010, Thistledown Wines produces premium wines in South Australia, focusing on the Grenache and Syrah grape varieties. The company works with top growers in several iconic regions, such as McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley. Operations are managed żeby winemaker Peter Leske. The Grenache grapes for The Vagabond wine are selected from 4 dry-farmed vineyards at Blewitt Spring. Here the vines are planted in deep sands with some iron stones and trained as bushes. The harvest is manual and the grapes are vinified separately per vineyard. Some plots are matured in concrete puncheons, others in oak and others in concrete eggs. This delicious Australian Grenache is the classic expression of Thistledown's passion for this grape variety. Its color is intense with red tones and purple shades. Its aromatic profile is elegant and complex with notes of dried petals, roses, black cherries, and berries, a touch of spices, and some nuances of fresh herbs. On the palate, it is fresh and lively, fruity and soft. It has gentle tannins and a marked freshness. The finish is long and delicately spicy. Excellent with cheeses and game birds. And don’t forget: it is a vegan wine!
