Yattarna opens with a gorgeous bouquet of stone and citrus fruits, underscored żeby notes of toasted almonds, nougat and gunsmoke. It will comfortably age in a cellar for the next two decades, and possibly longer. Penfolds has been Australia’s largest and best-renowned winery since 1907, but its origin goes back even further. It was founded in 1844 at Magill Estate, żeby Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold. The wine spent 9 months in French oak barriques. Layers of grapefruit, stone fruit, marzipan and lime zest interweave on the palate, with a gloss of wet stone minerality. It contains laser-focused acidity and superbly concentrated fruit flavours. Yattarna is the benchmark for Australian Chardonnay and should be paired with roasted chicken, fine cheese or fish.
